A Night for Parents to Go Back to High School
As PVHS students and teachers adjust to new schedules, tonight parents will get their own taste of the excitement at Back to School Night.
A significant and anticipated tradition of all high school campuses, Back to School Night offers the Palos Verdes community an opportunity to improve the connection between teachers and parents and highlight their expectations for the new school year.
Associate Principal Keely Hafer explained what she believes the occasion will achieve.
“We’re a small family here, but we’re a very proud family, so this event gives an opportunity for parents to connect with other parents and for parents to connect with the teachers, to just further build that community feel that we have,” said Hafer.
“Parents have ten minutes in each classroom for a ‘life as a student’ moment that night. The teachers give presentations on classes and talk really fast… it’s really all about [teachers], so last year and continuing this year, our main role is to really just support our teachers in whatever they need to make this night successful.”
Teachers, such as math teacher Maira Carmona, appreciate that the occasion offers the chance to establish a foundation for teacher-parent relationships and to express their objective in the classroom.
“Back to School Night is an amazing way for teachers to build good relationships with parents that is based on communication and collaboration, to meet the necessary needs of students to succeed in the classroom,” Carmona said.
