PVHS Halloween Lockdown
PVHS is known for a lot of many things, sports, Red Tide, and the Halloween tradition of the competing senior’s groups. The senior boys and senior girls spend months deciding and planning what they will wear and bring, in hopes of outdoing the other each year. The administration is usually lenient when it comes to this tradition, as it is a tradition and Halloween is all about pushing the limits, but it seems that this year, the seniors pushed too far.
Baby powder, sardines, fish oil, milk, stink bombs, shaving cream, shrimp, and more the halls of PVHS today after mobs of senior girls dressed as penguins and senior boys dressed as rival school PVPHS’s “ The Zoo” stormed the halls and covered fellow Sea Kings during nutrition and zero period between yesterday.
At the beginning of 5th period, an announcement was made that the school had been put on lockdown because of the behavior and vandalism was done to the school, and the administration has been pulling seniors from class to help clean up. Varsity Cheer, Live from 205 staff, Be the Change, ASB, Principal Advisory Council, Red Tide presidents, and various other groups and students all went out to help clean up the mess and talk to the administration as well. This student’s spent an hour sweeping and wiping off the mess that had been made during the mobs of seniors.
At about 11:30 another announcement was made that the school was no longer on lockdown and that the halls are now clean, and slippery. Dr. Park, the PVHS principal, expressed his gratitude and seemed calm considering the situation. “We make mistakes together, and we fix and learn from them together,” said Park in his second address to the student body
Some students seem to be concerned that the tradition will not continue next year and that costumes will be banned on Halloween as a way to prevent this level of vandalism, and some feel that it is unfair for administration to be so worked up over this, as it is not the first year that this has happened. Others counter this idea with the sentiment that the actions of the seniors this year have taken the fun Halloween tradition to another level. “Last year people just told me it wasn’t that bad and it was just fun. I didn’t know that it was gonna be that bad” Said Hania Taduran, PVHS freshman, on how the experience felt as it was her first Halloween at PVHS,
Without any official statement from the administration, it is impossible to know what exactly the consequences of today’s events will be, which puts many seniors on the edge of their seats, but it can be assumed that they will not be fun for anyone.
