Sophomore Megan Ashcroft and Junior Adam Ashcroft both share a passion for ice skating. The siblings started skating together eight years ago, started competing together three years ago, and are currently ranked number seven in the United States of America for the Intermediate division.
“Megan and I started skating when I was eight years old and she was seven,” Adam said.
In the beginning they trained at the LA Kings Ice in the Promenade.
“I tried a bunch of different sports that my mom put me in but when I started skating I just kept wanting to go back,” Megan said.
She had an instant love and passion for skating. Her brother started skating with her soon after.
They now skate at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, East West Ice Palace in Artesia, and LA Kings Ice in Burbank.
“We skate Monday through Thursday before school for 1-2 hours and on Monday and Wednesday we have lessons with our coaches. On Saturday and Sunday we skate for two hours,” Adam said.
The two prioritize balancing a packed schedule.
“We just moved up a level since last year. We used to compete in beginner and now we are competing in the intermediate category,” Megan said.
On November 14th and 15th, Megan and Adam competed three of their routines in the Ice Dance category at the US Ice Dance Finals where they placed 4th in their region and 10th in the US.
Adam and Megan plan on continuing their skating journey and will skate and compete together through the 2024 season where they hope to do well in competitions before Adam graduates next June.
