The Palos Verdes Sea Kings Boy’s Soccer team has had an up and down season.
They started the season by losing their first three games, then followed it up by winning their next three.
Nobody really knew where they stood within the Bay League as they began.
Then, they skyrocketed, winning games against Redondo and Santa Monica.
Their next game was a much anticipated matchup against Mira Costa, one of the best soccer teams in the entire nation, ranked 23rd in Maxpreps National Top 25.
Sea Kings came out of that game with a 1-1 tie, a very impressive effort by the team as a whole.
“Our guys were locked in the entire game, we only subbed twice,” said head coach Derek Larkins.
“Our starters had to go basically 100 minutes and they were into it the entire time. That was such a huge game for us.”
At the end of the season, they finished just behind Costa as 2nd in the Bay League.
The Sea Kings matched up with Los Alamitos in the first round of the CIF playoffs.
Seniors Oliver Knotek and Matthew Yoon both found the back of the net in the 2-1 road win, justifying their spot in the next round of the playoffs, at home against Canyon.
Unfortunately, the season ended in a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat, but the future for the Sea King program is very bright.
“These boys are like family to me and the way the team bonded and worked for one another in the games near the end of season was amazing to see,” Knotek said,
“I know the program is headed in the right direction with our amazing coaches and staff supporting us. We had a very young team this year and I am very confident that this group of boys will bring us back to where we used to be.”
