NBA Season is Back
With the NBA season starting again, we will take a look at the best moves of the offseason and the most exciting teams to watch. On July 1st, 2018, Lebron James’ management company Klutch Sports announced that LeBron will be signing with the Los Angeles Lakers in a 4-year, 154 million dollar contract.
The face of the league joined one of the biggest markets, which will result in a significant profit for the association.
Although LeBron is leaving his hometown, it is certainly not the first time, and his decision was much more accepted among his peers and their respective fanbases, due to the fact that he delivered the 2016 NBA Championship to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Although the Lakers currently have a solid young core to play alongside him, questionable additions were added to the team a few weeks after LeBron announced his decision. Rajon Rondo, JaVale McGee, Lance Stephenson, and Michael Beasley joined the headline-generating Lakers team. This year’s Lakers team will certainly bring excitement and the feeling of winning – something the Lakers haven’t experienced for quite some time. The ultimate goal, however, for the Lakers, is something far beyond the feeling of winning; it is winning the championship.
Kawhi Leonard, a former small forward for the San Antonio Spurs, demanded to be traded after being dubbed the next face of the storied franchise. Out of all places, why Toronto? First, Toronto had a valuable asset in DeMar DeRozan. Unfortunately for DeRozan, he was told by the front office that he would not be traded, but a few days later, he was shipped to San Antonio (along with Jakob Poeltl) for Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green, and a first-round pick. Trading away a franchise player will never be well-received from the critics, but both teams did benefit from the trade. The Spurs lost a top-5 player in Kawhi, but team chemistry issues were solved in this deal.
The Golden State Warriors, straight off of a back to back championship run, will be looking for a three-peat. Their road to the title will be significantly easier, due to another addition of an All-Star in DeMarcus Cousins. Cousins is straight off of a torn Achilles, but his teammates can carry his weight.
LeBron is in a Laker uniform, Kawhi is representing The North, and DeMarcus Cousins joined the Western Conference All-Star caliber team. The 2018-2019 season will not disappoint fans.
