PVHS Winter CIF Recap

PVHS has a variety of winter sports team. These range from basketball to water polo.
Almost all high school sports at varsity levels finish off their season in CIF (California Interscholastic Federation).
This year girls’ water polo finished their season with a record of 20 wins and 12 losses. The team made it to quarterfinals in CIF this year.
They had a very close game in the first round of CIF. The team ended up winning with a score of 9-8.
They won their second round of CIF against Polytechnic with a score of 11-8. They lost in the quarter final game, which was against Newbury Park with a score of 6-7.
PVHS soccer had an exceptional season this year. The boys’ team had a record of 19 wins eight losses and two ties.
Boys varsity soccer made it to second round in division 1 this year.
They had a good first game against Edison and ended up winning 1-0.
In the second round they lost to Clemente 1-4.
Varsity soccer player Matthew Saloman says that the team was, “confident going into CIF playoffs and played well, but San Clemente capitalized on a couple of set pieces in the first ten minutes and put us behind.”
Girls’ soccer had a good season this year with 8 win 13 losses and one tie.
Unfortunately this year they didn’t make it to CIF this year.
Varsity soccer player Isabella Carr says, “[she] is proud of the girls for working so hard and getting to know every single one of them is something that [she] will remember for the rest of her life.”
Boys’ and girls’ basketball had a great season this year.
The girls’ basketball team had a record of 16 wins and 10 losses.
During the season, Ebun Kalejaiye was the top scorer on the team and had the most assists.
They lost their fist CIF game against Mayfair.
Senior Varsity basketball player Anne Borgen says that, “despite the adversity, we never gave up, always tried to play our best, and always remained committed towards our goal of winning CIF.”
Even though Anne will not be at PVHS next year she still has faith that girls’ basketball can win CIF next year.
Boys’ basketball this year had a record of seven wins and 20 losses.
They had a close game against Inglewood high school losing in double overtime 86-89.
PVHS had a strong first half leading with a score of 46-33.
The second half ended with both teams tied with a score of 71-71.
In the first overtime both teams scored 9 points which made the score 80-80.
PVHS scored 6 points in the second overtime while Inglewood scored 9.
Despite their best efforts, Sea King basketball was unable to achieve their goal of going to CIF.
