It was that time of year again where 8th graders figure out which high school to attend next year, and Palos Verdes High School prepared for its annual open house. This event can have a major impact on students’ decisions whether they prefer the atmosphere, academics or sports offered at each different school.
“I made the Open House graphic on Instagram and tried to promote the event that way. I also made posters and set up the table. We start preparing and discussing about two weeks in advance but we really put things in action the week of open house,” ASB Social Media commissioner Emma Clarke said.
This year, PV’s open house took place on January 29 where another large number of future Sea Kings came to campus to visit the award-winning school. Representatives from several programs and activities set up in Sea King Park as well as the Sea King Center to display their various curriculums.
“I absolutely loved the school spirit at PVHS. Entering the Sea King park on the night of the open house and seeing all the welcome posters made me feel like this place really does want to make everyone feel at home,” Ridgecrest student Koko Sohara said.
Speaking of spirit, the Associated Student Body collaborated with many of the clubs, electives and extracurriculars offered at PV to make open house a memorable experience for all who attend. Having a schedule as well as an organized presentation allows Palos Verdes to be displayed in its best light.
“I think open house impacts an 8th grader because all their program options are laid out. It can really solidify a student’s decision for choosing PV High because of the variety we showcase at this event,” Clarke said.
With clubs and electives ranging from Photography to PVIT, students can find a variety of different classes and clubs to join based on their interests and future careers or goals. The diverse display of activities available enhances the overall experience of the night.
“I met so many people who were welcoming, energetic, confident and extremely connected to the school. Overall I had an amazing experience at the open house and I am so pleased to be able to have PVHS as an option for my future school,” Sohara said.
