This month, the annual Project Runway Show to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation will take place at Palos Verdes High School on February 26 and 27th in the MPR.
This year’s theme is ‘In Full Bloom,’ and the show will feature models wearing clothes from both new and previously used sponsoring stores, the senior boy-girl dance and much more.
Each year this event is a fan favorite at PVHS, and it also raises money for a very beneficial cause.
“It’s a super fun event, I think every time someone has come for the first time they’re blown away by what a fun show it is” Project Runway advisor Cari Secrist described.
“The best part is that every single penny of our ticket sales goes straight to [the] Make-A-Wish Foundation so it is just such a good cause” she continued.
Preparations have been going on since the end of the last school year. Project Runway senior Co-President Olivia McPhee described how much work goes into planning the show.
“We have practices every week… dress rehearsals the weekend before… and a bunch of stage managers that are awesome and help direct the show. It’s really a group effort that helps make it run smoothly.”
The bulk of the show includes dances choreographed by high school students including senior choreographer Sasha Woudwijk.
“It is a big commitment being a choreographer, but my cheer background really helped me in coming up with all of the dances,” she said.
All of the board members, presidents and choreographers play a vital role in the show being successful.
“It’s really important for all of the board members to be a part of this because they are developing incredible skills and it is such a learning experience,” Secrist said.
The team is focused on making this year’s show even more successful than before.
“I am excited to see if we will be able to raise enough money to make three wishes come true this year. Last year we hit a new record. We were able to raise over 23,000 dollars and so the goal of course is to do even better this year.”
The continuous efforts behind the show and the combined efforts of the team allow the production to make greater impact for the better while growing the success of the shows.
“We’re really trying to be organized and we’re really trying to think of every possible angle so we are able to have an even more successful show this year,” Secrist said.
