Freshmen Find Their Way
October 5, 2017
This year 450 freshmen enrolled at PVHS. Many freshmen had mixed feelings about the transition to high school.
Some people felt happy to see their friends again. Other people felt nervous or prepared.
One reason that Kapil Dheeriya, freshman at PVHS, felt he was prepared was because, “[he] had some good teachers in 8th grade that prepared [him].”
Dheeriya also said that having friends from middle school that went to highschool with him helped him because, “I support my friends when they need something and they support me.”
Although Dheeriya felt good about his transition to high school, he still was a little nervous to come to a new school. He felt nervous as it was a big change.
Another freshman Aidan Wattson felt nervous about the transition to highschool. However, he was able to muster up the courage as Link Crew leaers were there to help him.
The leaders aided him in “[learning] the campus of the school.”
Allyson Klabe, the Link Crew supervisor, explained Link Crew is “a way to make freshmen feel comfortable coming to high school by introducing them to the campus and teaching [them] some strategies for success.”
Link Crew was helpful for many other freshman students besides Wattson, including Dheeriya, who said it “made [him] feel like a part of the school.”
“The hardest thing for me was making new friends but the link crew helped me with that.” Wattson stated.
Generally, freshmen said that the transition was not as bad as they thought.“There is a lot more homework than I thought, but the sports are a lot more fun than I thought,” said Wattson.
With the helping hand of Link Crew and individual courage, this year’s freshman transition was another success.
